Magic the Gathering

I know it has been forever since I posted anything on this blog, and I know it will take a while for people to follow it. But I watched this video from the Proffessors, a Magic the Gathering "news" channel. In this video, they decided to try to trade for one of the Power 9 cards starting with just a Core 2011 booster pack.

For those of you that don't play Magic, you may have heard about this being done on Craig's List with different ingredients. A guy decided to start trading with people on Craig's List to get a house. He started with a pack of chewing gum. Same concept here, except we are starting with relatively inexpensive Magic cards and building to one of the 9 most powerful and expensive cards made in Magic.

Rather than just blatantly steal their idea, I decided to come up with my own idea. I am going to start with one booster pack of 2011 and try to trade for the following: Primeval Titan, Grave Titan, Jace the Mind Sculptor and Vengevine. These four cards are arguably the most sought after cards in Magic right now, which adds to the challenge.

The rules are simple. One pack of 15 cards from a booster pack of Core 2011. Trading only, no cash transactions. No adding cards from my existing trade binder, and any card from any set is fair game for trade with me.

I will probably buy the pack next week. I am planning to go the Pro Tour Qualifier in Nashville in November, and hope to have everything I need to get my four power cards in trade from the dealers there.

As soon as I crack the first pack, I will outline the trades and the progress here on this blog. I will also be trading on various MTG forums, so watch for me there and if you want to help make this happen, let me know.

A little bit about me

First of all, I want you all to know that I really don't like talking about myself, and I know that sounds funny coming from somebody with a blog. I really started this blog to show of my Warhammer 40k army that is currently a work in progress. It is also a way for me to connect with some Warhammer 40k people I have seen on YouTube and in these blogs.

Anyway, here is a little bit about me. I am 35 years old and I play with toy soldiers. That is the simple description of me, and I am not ashamed to admit it. I am married and have two kids. I have a steady job as an accountant. Right there I have broken every stereotype of war gamers around the world. Unfortunately for all you geek-haters out there, I don't live in my mom's basement and only work two days a week. I am an active and productive member of society.

I am a member of the Adeptus Memphis Wargaming group based out of Memphis, TN. We play most of our games in Olive Branch, MS, but we also play in Memphis as well. All the members of the group play Warhammer 40k, but we also play other games as well, like Flames of War and Warhammer Fantasy. I will post a link to our website. If you live in the Memphis area or know someone who does who is looking for a regular game, contact us and we will be glad to have you.

Besides gaming, I really enjoy the modeling and painting aspect of these games as well. I have only been playing for about 2 years now, but I have painted a lot of models and I have been getting a lot of compliments on my painting. My wife, who is usually my biggest critic, has been very supportive of my painting skills and she has encouraged me to list some models on E-bay which I have done with some success.

So not only do I want to show off my army in progress, I also want to get the word out that I would like to start doing some painting on a more regular basis. I have painted a few things for other people, but would like to do more in the future.

What else about me? Well, besides wargaming, I am also an avid poker player. I play online a lot (just the free sites online).

Well, for someone who doesn't like to talk about himself that much, this seems like a lot. Look for more updates (at least weekly, but probably not more than that). I am going to start by giving you all a sneak peek of my army, the Screaming Wolves of Fenris.
